The Huntsville, Texas chapter of Las Damas de Baxter had its beginning on February 18, 2007, at an organizational meeting with 22 women present. Baxter Institute has been close to the hearts of Frank and Dorothy Price for many years, so it was very fitting that Dorothy was chosen as the first President. Norma Brown agreed to be Treasurer and Diane Harris, Secretary.
Las Damas went to work right away selling Rada cutlery and organizing a fund-raiser luncheon, which was held on May 6. Each
table competed for desserts in a silent auction, and other things such as handcrafted items, plants, and baked goods were auctioned off to the highest bidder. Tables were decorated with items from several Latin American countries.
The first Saturday in June Las Damas had a garage sale which netted around $500. So with this fundraiser, the luncheon, and our continuing sales of Rada cutlery, the Huntsville chapter was able to send $3,000 to Baxter Institute to help supply media equipment for a classroom.
We are thankful for the support of the elders and members of the Huntsville church of Christ, and for the encouragement of Frank and Dorothy Price to begin a chapter of Las Damas in Huntsville.
