Las Damas de Baxter: Nashville Chapter

History of Las Damas de Baxter

On July 18, 1982, several ladies met for the first time in the home of Kate Howard of Nashville, Tennessee. From this organizational meeting, Las Damas de Baxter (The Baxter Ladies) was born. This first meeting included the following ladies: Henrietta Bradford, Vivian Collier, Charlene Goodwin, Kate Howard, Ida Palmer, Kay Prince, Ginger Santiago, Rose Ann Sullivan and Beverly Wolfe.

It was agreed that Kate Howard would serve as Chairman, Charlene Goodwin as Secretary and Rose Ann Sullivan as Treasurer. Forty-nine ladies attended the first regular meeting held at Vultee church of Christ, and, over the years, membership grew to around 150 members.

Las Damas de Baxter was established as a voluntary association of women interested in assisting Baxter Institute.

Aims of Las Damas de Baxter:

  • To inform Christian ladies of the work being done by Baxter Institute, its faculty and students.
  • To encourage a personal involvement and partnership of Christian ladies in this work through their prayers, their meetings, and their annual visits to the school for the special events and graduation ceremonies each December.
  • To assist financially with special projects for the benefit of the school, the individual students, and the staff.
