Our first-year class continues to be a blessing to the Baxter family. In the last newsletter, we introduced you to our 4 first-year couples with their children. This month we want you to meet 4 of our 8 single first-year students. Their pictures are above and they are (from left to right): Germán Martínez from Mexico, Glen Hall (Gary's brother) from Panama, Jorge López from Honduras and Juan Carlos Flores from Mexico.
The challenges of being away from home are great, especially for the single men. We ask you to pray for them to study hard and give all that they have in training to be better servants of the Lord and leaders in the kingdom. There are a few students who still need a sponsor. Sponsorship is $450 per month for the single students and $600 per month for the families. |

The JMA Clinic is very busy! Our Baxter students are spending time at the Clinic, talking to the people who are in the nutrition program and those waiting for the doctor or dentist about the "bread of life" and the "great physician". So, not only do the many people who enter the Clinic gate daily receive medical, dental and general nutrition care, they also receive the gospel!
In March, 650 patients were seen in the Medical Clinic and 490 in the Dental Clinic. Two different brigades from Harpeth Hills church of Christ, led by Steve Davidson, were at the Clinic in March. Brigade #1 March 22-26 and #2 March 25-31.
The Nutrition Program continues to serve 56 families. Dr. Cubas re-evaluates all of those enrolled every 3 months, and when a child has progressed sufficiently and the mother has received the vocational training provided, that family is removed from the program and another is added. A few new sponsors have recently joined us in supporting a child/family. Since some of our 56 families did not previously have a sponsor, this took some of the financial burden from the Clinic. Now as we continue to add new sponsors, we will be able to add new families! We hope to greatly increase the Nutrition Program this year, but we need your help. The cost of support is $25 per family per month. Maybe you or your family or your Bible Class would like to support one or more of the families who are waiting to be added to this program. For just $300 per year, a family receives medical and dental care, counseling, vocational training and supplemental food and vitamins for as long as they are in the program. We will send you pictures of "your" child and a background on the family, along with the problems encountered. One of the exciting things about this is that you are not just helping to feed a family, but you may be saving a child's life. It is that critical.
We are pleased to announce that in April we hired Carlos Abraham Carbajal as Supervisor of the Clinic. He is in charge of the day-to-day operations and is doing a wonderful job. Carlos is a faithful member of the La Vega church of Christ and recently graduated from the Catholic University of Honduras with a degree in industrial engineering. Besides working full time at the clinic, Carlos is pursuing a master's degree in Project Management at a university here in Tegucigalpa. |

The Baxter Institute has been operating since 1964. That means we are in our 42nd year of operations. In that time, we have had about 500 graduates. A few years ago, many of our records were lost (or at least misplaced) and we do not have a good list of Baxter graduates. If you know someone who has graduated from Baxter, please email us or encourage that person to email us at Baxter@sigmanet.hn or stevenwhite@sigmanet.hn. We want to compile a list and find out what our graduates are doing and where they are. We will put that list on a password- protected part of our website and we can all find out "Where in the world are our Baxter graduates?"
One of the features we want to add to this Newsletter is a section devoted to our alumni. I know many of them are accomplishing great things for the Lord and we want to share their stories. Please help us contact those folks if you can. Also, we would like for you to nominate a graduate to be recognized here by sending us their stories. I know that many of you have had long-term relationships with these men who have given so much. |

May 11-14, 2006 is the Baxter Seminar on campus. We are looking forward to the return of many Baxter graduates for this exceptional time of learning and renewal. Carrol Robertson, from South Texas and a former Baxter faculty member, will be the principal speaker and we will have classes taught by local preachers. Also, World Bible School will present a class on the advantages of using their material in evangelizing the Latin world.
September 14-17, 2006 is the International Youth Meeting on campus. This is entirely planned and executed by our Baxter students and there are about 600 young people who attend from many surrounding countries, as well as Honduras.
November 29-December 4, 2006 are the dates for the 2006 Graduation Trip for the Baxter Institute. We have a great group of men and women who will complete their training and we want to honor them and dedicate them to the work that the Lord will give them. We never know what exciting things will happen when we gather to celebrate, but we know this is a great trip to learn about the work of Baxter, the Clinic and our students who "go into all the world and preach the gospel." Plan to be here in Tegucigalpa and help us celebrate. Start saving your money now! |
