The Baxter Seminar was held from May 10- 13 here on campus. The “keynote speaker” was Carroll Robertson from Alton, Texas. Bro. Robertson lived in Tegucigalpa and taught at Baxter from 1993-95. He and his wife, Eunice, were also missionaries in Peru from 1967-70. He speaks great Spanish and is loved by the students and faculty here! During the Seminar, we had guests from Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, U.S. and Honduras.
On July 10, 2006, Alexandro Oliveras (2004 Baxter graduate) will begin teaching Greek and Hebrew at Baxter Institute. We welcome Alexandro and his family back to Tegucigalpa and will give you more details in our next Newsletter.
We are very excited to have our 4th year students back from their PAM, their mission apprenticeship program (the order of the words is different in Spanish). We had students working for three to six months in Chile, Venezuela, El Salvador and many locations in Honduras. This is usually the highlight of their 4 years here when they work full-time with a church that has excellent programs in preaching, evangelism and outreach. For example, the church in Barquisimeto, Venezuela is currently working with about 12 congregations that they have planted. Some of those congregations are in urban areas and there are some congregations where our students worked in the rainforest area of the Amazon River. This kind of experience is incredibly valuable for our students. We are continually looking for growing congregations in which to train our students, so please let us know if you are working with congregations that would be a good match for us and our students. The congregations are required to provide food and housing for the students during their stay with them. We are very thankful to the Lord to have everyone home safely. | |

Here are the remaining 4 first-year students. They are (from left to right): Juan José Cruz from Nicaragua, Mario Rosas from Mexico, Sergio Mendoza from Honduras and Yader Sánchez from Nicaragua.
Mario Rosas is carrying on a family tradition. His father, Luis Rosas graduated from Baxter; his brother, Luis Fernando Rosas, graduated from Baxter; and his sister and brother-in-law, Paulina and Alejandro Ezquerra also graduated from Baxter. What a great family!
This first year class is just amazing! They are good students, hard working and enthusiastic. There are a few students who still need a sponsor. Sponsorship is $450 per month for the single students and $600 per month for the families. |

On May 16, a farewell lunch was given in honor of Claudia Molina who finished her year of social service at the Dental Clinic. She did an incredible job and was loved by everyone.
On May 18, there was a celebration at the JMA Clinic, at which time Carlos Abraham Carbajal, Supervisor of the Clinic, praised and encouraged the women whose children are involved in the Nutrition Program. We all had lunch together as the staff at the clinic graciously prepared the food and served everyone. Please keep in mind that it only costs $25 per month to support a family in the Nutrition Program. We would love to add new families with your support. Please consider becoming a sponsor for a family or inviting your Bible class to do so.
The Medical Clinic has seen over 2,000 patients and the Dental Clinic almost 900 since the beginning of April! We had two brigades working at the JMA Clinic in June from Pennyrile church of Christ in Madisonville, KY and North Jackson church of Christ in Jackson, TN. In July we will have two more brigades from the Sunset church of Christ in Miami, Florida and the Brentwood Hills church of Christ in Nashville.
We are truly blessed by the wonderful staff at the JMA Clinic, as well as by members of the brigades who are willing to come and help the people in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. |

If you know someone who has graduated from Baxter Institute, please email us or encourage that person to email us at Baxter@sigmanet.hn or stevenwhite@sigmanet.hn. We want to compile a list and find out what our graduates are doing and where they are. We will put that list on a password-protected part of our website and we can all find out "Where in the world are our Baxter graduates?"
One of the features we want to add to this Newsletter is a section devoted to our alumni. I know many of them are accomplishing great things for the Lord and we want to share their stories. Please help us contact those folks if you can. Also, we would like for you to nominate a graduate to be recognized here by sending us their stories. I know that many of you have had long-term relationships with these men who have given so much. |

July 10-14, 2006 is another Seminar on campus. Calvin and Linda Henry will be here to teach classes on Missions and The Work of the Preacher's Wife. Both of these seminars are very valuable for our students and we appreciate the willingness of both Calvin and Linda to spend a week with us sharing their vast experience in the mission field. Please pray for these seminars and that this time will glorify our Lord and turn some hearts more toward the work of preacher and missionary.
September 13-18, 2006 is the International Youth Meeting on campus. This is entirely planned and executed by our Baxter students and there are about 600 young people who attend from many surrounding countries, as well as Honduras.
November 29-December 4, 2006 are the dates for the 2006 Graduation Trip for the Baxter Institute. We have a great group of men and women who will complete their training and we want to honor them and dedicate them to the work that the Lord will give them. We never know what exciting things will happen when we gather to celebrate, but we know this is a great trip to learn about the work of Baxter, the Clinic and our students who "go into all the world and preach the gospel." Plan to be here in Tegucigalpa and help us celebrate. Start saving your money now! |
