...I am thankful for the hand of God, which guides my life gently as I strive to serve Him and for the body of Christ that sustains me and makes me aware of his love and care.  May we always look for light in darkness, joy in pain and hope in time of despair?

Dear Jeanne,

As we begin the 45th year of the existence of Baxter Institute, we look forward to many accomplishments.  This year, 2009 will see a change in leadership.  As many of you know, Jeanne and I will return to the US sometime in this year.  We have been honored and blessed to be able to be here and work alongside so many wonderful people-the faculty, staff, students of Baxter Institute and the staff of the JMA Clinic as well as the servants of the Association Amicus, the board of directors.  We have also made some changes to the Association Amicus that should improve the effectiveness of this great group of servants (See Bob Young's article below).  I hope this will be the year of our accreditation.  This has been a process of about seven years in duration and we are sometimes frustrated by the bureaucracy, but it will be a time for rejoicing when we finally receive the right to operate openly here in Honduras and the value to the graduates will be wonderful.  We continue to improve the infrastructure and hope this year to expand the wireless computer network throughout the campus.

We ask you to become more involved with us.  You can help us in many ways that really don't cost you anything.  Why not forward this e-newsletter to your friends around the world and let them know about Baxter and the JMA Clinic.  As I travel around the US, I am amazed that so many people have never heard of us.  We need to get the word out that there is a school that is training Latin American preachers to serve Latin America, in Latin America.  Our model is solid, but our public relations expertise is and has been lacking.

I also need a congregation that will send out a "snail mail" copy of our newsletters.  Many churches have dropped their bulk mailing permits and we need a partner who will print, assemble and mail a hard-copy newsletter 3-4 times per year.  We have a database of over 3,000 addresses but only about 1,000 emails, so we are missing quite a few of our constituents.  If you can help with this, please contact me.  The cost of first class mail outs is just too much for our budget.

Thanks for allowing us this wonderful experience of working with the finest people in the kingdom.  May God bless us and give us 45 more years of service or more until He comes.

Blessings,

New Students at Baxter!
Welcoming New Students - Waiting on More...
1stYr09Collage
At the end of January, we were blessed with 11 new students from 5 different countries.  We are still waiting on one single young man from Honduras who has been in the hospital, as well as a married couple and a single from Cuba!  We pray that God works out the details for these 3 to join us soon!

To see more photos of our new students and find out where they are from, go to this page on our Website:  New Students 2009
Baxter Chorus
Baxter Chorus 08-2 Chorus Performs at Graduation
We are so thankful to have a wonderful chorus at Baxter again!  There are many talented young men on campus and if you visit, you will hear them singing as they are praising, playing, walking and working.

(Click on "Read More" to learn more about the chorus and about a group called "No Borders" and find out how you can hear them!)
Reflections by Bob Young
Regardless of how you are involved, I want to say thank you for your interest and participation in the grand work we do through Association Amicus-at Baxter Institute, at the JMA Clinic, and throughout Latin America.  Through the combined efforts of many, God is glorified.
VCOM November '09 Medical Mission in Honduras
Medical Students Gain Education and Experience
by Providing Compassionate Care in Collaboration with Baxter Institute

VCOM Mission 11-09The partnership between James Moody Clinic at Baxter Institute and the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) forged new levels in November, 2008.  Over fifty medical professionals provided compassionate care to 6 villages experiencing damage during a tropical depression in October 2008.  Villages were selected based on need and location of a Church of Christ to provide assistance with arranging the medical and health-care services and follow-up care at James Moody Adams Clinic.

Grateful by Steve White
It is difficult to believe that 2008 has ended.  It is also difficult to realize that 2009 will be our last year working full time at Baxter and the Clinic.  We had a great board of directors meeting on December 6 and the Search Committee is working hard to find someone to replace me during the year.

Thank you for reading this Newsletter.  Please pray for the work here in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and all over the world.

God Bless You,
