30 Years in Honduras
1978-2008
|
|
We are planning a celebration on Friday, December 5 in the morning to celebrate the 30 years that Baxter Institute has been operating in Honduras. Baxter began in Mexico City in 1964 and moved to its present location in 1978. Much has been done to change the looks of the former coffee farm, but even more has been done to change the churches of Christ in Honduras and other Latin American countries.
We plan to have speeches and recognition of various graduates from the years in Honduras. It is a time to just reflect on the good that has been accomplished by the hundreds of students who have passed through our doors.
We are thankful to the students, teachers, staff, board members and supporters for all that has been done to expand the kingdom of God over this time period and we ask God's blessing for the coming years.
Come celebrate with us!

| Dear Friend,
What a blessing it is to be a part of all that is going on at Baxter Institute and the JMA Clinic! God continues to bless these works and we give thanks and all the glory to Him.
We also know that without God's hands and feet here on this earth, these works would not even exist. Thanks to all of you who pray for us, come and work and donate money. We appreciate all that you do and thank God for you!
We are getting close to graduation time here on campus. It is hard to believe, but it will be here before we know it. As we gear up for another great week of celebration from December 3-8, please consider coming and sharing in this celebration with us. You will find information in this newsletter about our upcoming graduation, as well as many other things.
May God bless each one of you reading this. You are our partners!

"On the Road for the Lord"
by Steve White
Over the year, our students and staff are working tirelessly for the Lord. The students have a weekend assignment about 40 weekends per year. They work on Saturdays visiting and evangelizing in the neighborhoods where they are assigned. Some work with youth groups and teach singing and Bible classes. On Sunday, they preach, teach, lead singing and do whatever is needed in the assigned congregations. The students also have a six-month internship in their fourth year and get great experience working full-time with a congregation that has shown to be a great model for evangelism in countries all over Latin America.

| Summer '08 Groups
We promised you more information about our groups in last month's Newsletter. The following comes from Amber Foster's report. Amber has worked tirelessly all summer to coordinate groups, make sure they had what they needed, made countless trips to San Pedro Sula and worked alongside the groups. We cannot say enough good things about Amber and we thank her so much for her heart and great work!

| New Computers at Baxter
Baxter Institute is blessed to have many loyal supporters throughout the brotherhood. We have churches and individuals that have been with us since the beginning. One of the great sources of support that we often overlook is the board of directors. The board members of Association Amicus (the legal name of the corporation) have blessed us over and over again with financial contributions as well as their special talents.
In June of this year, Tom and Gail Boren, from Houston, TX, purchased 20 new, Dell computers and sent them to Baxter Institute. I am relatively sure this is the first time Baxter has had new computers for student use. We thank Tom and Gail for their continued support for the programs of Baxter Institute and Tom's active involvement on the board of directors.
Also in June, Rich Quinn, who is not a board member, came and installed the new computers and also installed new (used) servers and updated the network that serves the campus. He installed new wiring, new switches and a powerful wireless router that makes internet available to much of the campus. Rich has spent countless hours over the years here working on our computer systems and he is a real friend to this work. Thanks, Rich!
